I Reviewed “Groundbreaking” for Hippocampus Magazine

Check out my latest book review for Hippocampus Magazine.

Reading a posthumously published memoir is a reckoning that makes us take pause.

I enjoyed this read — an autobiographical hybrid-memoir. Hybrid because the author blends in her gardening experiences in Berkeley, California with her personal narrative.

Born in London in 1940, Clare Cooper Marcus is a child when the devastation of the Nazi Blitz forces her family and others to grow food.

Gardens become recreation and sustenance.

She continues to be passionate about gardening after immigrating to the U.S., experiencing the counterculture of Berkeley, becoming a professor, wife, then single mother.

Her memoir reminds us to nurture nature as it nurtures us.
